UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR'S
OUR POLICY MEMO NO. 06 | Effective Date: September 1, 2000 |
As the official custodian of student records for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we provide highly visible services to students, parents, alumni, faculty, administrative personnel, and visitors. The work of the office requires organization, coordination, neatness, and attention to detail.
Recognizing this, we strive to have the appearance of the office and its employees reflect the quality of our work. Visitors entering the office should have a feeling of confidence in our ability to keep their records when viewing the appearance of the staff.
We believe in order to reflect this image all full-time, part-time, and temporary employees should be dressed to show pride in our appearance and craftsmanship. Clothing and shoes, while needing to be comfortable and unencumbering to the job, should not be the type chosen for labor intensive or leisure activities and should be neat and clean.
Examples of unacceptable attire would be clothing that are patched, worn, or faded, short-shorts, halter or half tops, work overalls, athletic sweatpants or sweatshirts or t-shirts, clothing with inappropriate designs or logos, and workout clothes. Shorts are not appropriate unless they are dressy shorts that are no shorter than 3 inches above the center of the kneecap. Inappropriate designs or logos would be those containing profanity or not conforming to campus policy on racial and sexual harassment.
This policy is for all full-time and part-time employees, and student workers. The office supervisors will enforce the policy.
Exception: Work clothes are appropriate on days when more labor-intensive work is to be done, such as moving equipment and records, or clearing storage areas.
