Special Course Categories
- APPLES Service-Learning Courses
APPLES is a student-sponsored program at UNC- Chapel Hill that engages students, faculty, and other community partners in service-learning partnerships that address social concerns and needs of North Carolina communities.
- Arts & Sciences/General College Requirements
Students must fulfill General Education requirements as part of their degree requirements. These requirements fall under the Basic Skills (English Composition, Foreign Language, and Math) Perspectives. In addition to fulfilling the General College perspectives many students will also be required to fulfill Arts & Sciences Perspectives.
- Capstone Courses
Capstone courses will satisfy upper-level B.A. requirements or may be used as electives. You may use a capstone course in your major department to satisfy a perspective requirement.
- Carolina Courses Online
Carolina Courses Online enable students with access to the appropriate technology to earn college credit by taking courses electronically. Class attendance is not required, but students are able to communicate with classmates and their instructor via e-mail and discussion forums.
- First Year Seminars
First-year seminars offer an introduction to the intellectual life of the university. While drawing on diverse disciplines and subject areas, the seminars share a focus on how scholars pose problems, discover solutions, resolve controversies, and evaluate knowledge.
- Honors Courses
Honors seminars are designed for honors students. As space permits, other students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 may enroll. Permission is required for enrollment and may be obtained from the Honors Program, located in Room 225 at the Graham Memorial Building.
